Supporting the sisters of Chennai

IMG_1364_edited.jpg

Situation

Orphans face many stressors and competing priorities regarding family, health, education, economic stability and safety. Lack of economic stability and safety are significant barriers for education and empowerment of girls and women in the developing world.

The Alnaus Foundation works to address the roots of these impediments to education and empowerment by supporting child orphanages to provide children and specifically girls with a safe and pleasant living environment to strive in.

The sisters of the congregation Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph run multiple girl orphanages and schools across India, but are facing a decline in structural donations.

Our Goal

Our goal is to support the congregation of Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph in Chennai by helping them to become more self-sustaining.

Our Initiative

To start our journey with the talented sisters of Chennai, we will help optimize their tailoring atelier and provide safe jobs for women.

Domestic Violence

domestic violence.jpg

Situation
Movement restrictions aimed to stop the spread of the coronavirus is making violence in homes more frequent, more severe and more dangerous.

Friction between couples has become worse now that couples are together almost all the time. The UK's largest domestic abuse charity, Refuge, has reported a 700% increase in calls to its helpline in a single day after the start of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Our Goal
Our goal is to raise awareness and funds for the victims of domestic violence.

Our Initiative
We have set up an online art exhibition for women to share their stories. Who they are, beyond what is happening or happened to them.

Artists visualize their essence beyond words and turn their wholesome story into art.

People who are looking for inspiration of strength or would like to support this cause can participate by acquiring art, raising awareness and contributing to organisations that support women and families struggling with violence

Organ Donation

The gift of life

Situation
Every 10 minutes another person is added to the organ transplantation waiting list. Approximately every hour a person dies because the organs they need are not donated in time. One organ can save up to 8 lives.

Organ Donation saves and transforms lives. As of September 2018, the number of people who are included in the Dutch organ donor register has increased to over 6.3 million (42% of the population), with 1.9 million people explicitly denying permission for organ donation. In comparison to native citizens, Dutch migrants seem less inclined to donate their organs, with only 8% of Dutch migrants with Moroccan, Turkish and Surinamese heritage registered as donor.

Our Goal
Our goal is to raise and promote awareness and information about the need for organ donors and to encourage people to become a donor.

Our Initiative
On November 25 2018, we organized an event to raise awareness of organ donation. Donors and beneficiaries are given the stage to share their stories. Furthermore, various religious leaders will provide insight from a religious perspective, with a focus on the possibilities rather than limitations.
